Did you know Murrieta has an Old Town area with lots of shops and restaurants? It sure does, it’s super cute and there’s been a lot of development there lately. I’m going to show you my five favorite spots to hang out and grab a bite to eat, and we are starting right now.
Hi! Thanks for checking out my channel, I’m Jessica Genung, a local Realtor and ten year resident here in Murietta, which is in Southern California. I created this channel to show people who are thinking about moving to Murietta what it’s like to live here, so don’t forget to hit the subscribe button and also hit that Bell icon so you don’t miss any of my new videos, which I publish weekly.
So lots of folks are already aware that Temecula has an Old Town with lots of shops and restaurants. It’s a very large bustling area and has been for many years, but a lot of people are not aware that Murietta also has an Old Town Historical District and there is quite a few restaurants and development that is coming in there that I think people would be interested to know about so I’m going to tell you about my five favorite local spots in Old Town Murietta.
They’re mostly places to eat (because we like to grub:) Number one is Wine Ranch. This is the newest and our current favorite. It’s owned by the same family that owns Wiens winery which is a popular winery in Temecula Wine Country. As you can see, it’s decor is very cute with a rustic flair to it.
It was previously a farmers market before becoming the restaurant so it’s interesting to see it be transformed. Great outdoor seating area with misters and little fire pits on the side of the tables. They have an awesome awesome happy hour which is every day from 3 to 6 o’clock. I highly highly recommend trying the bacon wrapped dates.
Number 2 is the Public House. The public house is a relatively new to Murietta Gastro Pub type restaurants. There is also a Public House in Temecula, although it’s a much smaller version and I think that is currently being remodeled.
The Murrieta Public House is much larger with a great indoor/outdoor bar and a huge outdoor seating area. You can see lots of large tables with fire pits in the middle, a great place for socializing.
They have one of those see-through kitchens that kind of brings the kitchen into the dining area. This is the back of the bar looking out to the street and they have one of those public hand-washing areas that are so popular right now. The Public House always has a lively atmosphere.
Number three is Calhouns. I’m getting hungry just thinking about Calhouns. It’s a family-owned Texas-style barbecue restaurant. A hole in the wall if you will. You can see it’s got a smoker right next to it where they do their barbecue.
I highly highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich and the sweet baked beans which has little pieces of brisket in it. Oh, and a sweet potato pie for dessert although they limit you to only three per day. If you’re ordering for a holiday, just a little tip: order in advance because they do sell out.
Number four is Anthony’s. It’s an Italian restaurant and lounge. The food is based on authentic family recipes Anthony’s parents brought with them when they immigrated from Italy in the 50s. Everything on the menu is homemade from the sausage and ravioli and lasagna to the crepes use to make their manicotti.
They have happy hour every day from 3:30 to 6:30 which gives you $2 off appetizers and drinks. You can enjoy them on that outdoor patio there. They have live piano every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6 o’clock and then live bands start at nine o’clock every Friday and Saturday.
Last but not least, number five is The Mill. The Mill has been in downtown Murietta since 1996 which is a long time compared to other businesses in the area. They are a small family-owned business co-owned by two families actually. They also have a nice community atmosphere. There is pizzas, pastas, salads, sandwiches and they have quite a few beers on draft. I recommend sitting at the bar where you can see them make the pizzas and chat with everyone or on the outdoor patio which is awesome.
So that about rounds out my favorite spots in Old Town Murietta. It’s been really exciting watching it grow over the years.
